Musica Pagani Ep 3

Episode three of the reboot of Musica Pagani has hit the interwebs. Hear music from Brian Henke, Omnia, Acoustic Ocean and many others!

The list of artists that we can play just keeps growing. Some of the artists in this edition you will be familiar with from earlier editions of MP as well as other programming on PMPChannel. The newest on the list below is Brian Henke. RevKess got hear him perform at Heartland 2013 and came home to find his latest two CDs in the review stack from KZUM. Needless to say, permission request was sent off right away.

For those of you who enjoy Leigh Ann’s music and want to learn more about her, please visit the sites linked and share her life and love of music with others. Leigh Ann was also an author, you can hear Colin Hussey read her novella “The Lover of Lord Eithras“, or read the story. There doesn’t seem to be any videos on YouTube or elsewhere for Leigh Ann’s music, something just might have to be done about that.

The Saturday 15 June 2013 edition of Pagan-Musings Podcast features segments of the 2013 Heartland Speakers’ Panel. The featured guests for Heartland this year were Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone, Mike Nichols, and Ed “the Pagan” Hubbard. Barbara Criswell of Aquarius Books in Kansas City acted as moderator. The topic for the panel was “Where do you envision Paganism, Wicca, etc going from here?”

The topic was paired well with the focus of many of the workshops and presentations from the honored guests. Janet and Gavin have decades of experience between them that they shared with the audience of the panel and with the participants of their workshops. Mike Nichols has been teaching about witchcraft since the 1970’s and is the author of The Witches’ Sabbats. Ed Hubbard has over 20 years experience as a priest and is co-manager of Pagans Tonight Radio Network.

The panel discussion was recorded in an open air auditorium, so there is some sound distortion. For that we apologize. Other than the wind and some audience noises, the only real sound issue was that some of the participants from the audience were hesitant on the microphone or even too shy to approach the microphone. Over all, the sound is decent enough to be able to hear everything being said. If you miss something and cannot figure it out, let us know and we would be happy to clarify things for you.

This week we celebrated *K8’s birthday, or as she put it: Birfday. She was lucky enough to attend a show at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, show casing the Brave Combo with opening act by the Bolzen Beer Band (local to Lincoln). As has become tradition on the Mess, the birthday person gets to program the majority of the music. This week’s show was not overtly Pagan, but did feature many of *K8’s favorite songs and bands. She is a big fan of polka, having been a former host of KZUM‘s The Polka Show.

PMP: Pagan Values Event 2013

Since 2009, the Pagan Values Event (under a few names) has been happening every June. Started by Geoffrey Stewart as a social experiment to allow Pagans of various paths to write about what they see as modern Pagan values, this event has taken on a life of its own.

From the 2012 description: “Started as a blog carnival in 2009 and expanded into an open event for bloggers and podcasters in 2010, this event lasts the month of June and provides a bully pulpit for Pagans and Polytheists and many others to speak about our Values. In a world where our many faiths and paths are often held up for ridicule or as straw dogs of evil for Fundamentalists, it would be easy to remain silent; especially as articulating our values and how we act upon them challenges the Fundamentalist’s claim of ownership over all Values and Virtues, and can attract unwanted attention from them

“However, in not articulating these things we also miss out on the friendships and connections that can arise with like-minded folks of many Faiths and Paths. We miss out on the opportunity to speak the Truth of who we are and what we do. We miss the chance to perhaps bring some much needed change and inspiration to a world in need.

“What are the Ethics, the Virtues, and Values that Contemporary Paganism has taught you to cherish, to live, to bring with you in your every interaction with the world? What do you do, inspired by these values? What adventures, or misadventures, has your Paganism and the Values and Virtues and Ethics it has inspired led you too? What and who have you encountered on your spiritual and moral journey as a Pagan? How have you acted upon these Values. What have you done inspired by these Virtues? What wrestling matches have you had when these Ethics encountered the real world?”

This year’s conversation was recorded and aired on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel as part of the Saturday June 8th edition. This year David Dashifen Kees of Hail Columbia is acting as coordinator. The 96th edition of Pagan Weekly News led off with news from the state of Florida. Lots of things going on down there for the Pagan and New Age communities. What with the uproar, now simmered down, in Pahokee over the first Summer Solstice Pagan Festival and the new banning of herbal tinctures state wide.

After a false start, RevKess was able to get things going an hour late. The joys of doing things live and hitting technical issues that cannot be resolved on our end. Thank you to the BTR help desk for taking the time to get things fixed. Still don’t know what actually happened, but it is a fix.

At PMPChannel we get several CDs a month plus permission from more artists than we can keep up with during the normal course of shows. A while back RevKess started doing editions of Musica Pagani to showcase those very musicians. KaliSara, Zaracon, Julian and RevKess do their best to give these musicians due time on their shows, but there just isn’t enough time during a news or talk program.

In this first edition of the revised show you hear music from New Age artists like Stephen DeRuby, Anima, Lia Scallon and Dan Kennedy. You also hear from Pagan musicians SJ Tucker, Cernunnos Rising and Tuatha Dea.

Stephen DeRuby‘s newest CD, Awakenings, and the latest from Anima, Light of Aluna, arrived in RevKess’s inbox only days ago. Lia Scallon‘s The Luminous Pearl and Dan Kennedy‘s Intution have been floating around for a little while and have been played on Murphy’s Magic Mess on KZUM. This is their PMPChannel debut.

SJ Tucker did the score to a Pagan themed film called Ember Days and she recently performed in Lincoln, NE. Cernunnos Rising just released their second CD, Urban Druid, and front man George Nicholas and his daughter Katie will be joining KaliSara and RevKess on the 22nd for an edition of Pagan-Musings Podcast. Tuatha Dea just released their third CD, The Tribe, and have been working long and hard with many talented musicians through a new project called The Tribe (Wendy Rule, Damh the Bard, and others have joined up). Tuatha Dea will be joining RevKess and KaliSara on the 29th for Pagan-Musings Podcast.

LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2013 — BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

For more than two centuries, our Nation has struggled to transform the ideals of liberty and equality from founding promise into lasting reality. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender(LGBT) Americans and their allies have been hard at work on the next great chapter of that history — from the patrons of The Stonewall Inn who sparked a movement to service members who can finally be honest about who they love to brave young people who come out and speak out every day.

This year, we celebrate LGBT Pride Month at a moment of great hope and progress, recognizing that more needs to be done. Support for LGBT equality is growing, led by a generation which understands that, in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” In the past year, for the first time, voters in multiple States affirmed marriage equality for same-sex couples. State and local governments have taken important steps to provide much-needed protections for transgender Americans.

My Administration is a proud partner in the journey toward LGBT equality. We extended hate crimes protections to include attacks based on sexual orientation or gender identity and repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” We lifted the HIV entry ban and ensured hospital visitation rights for LGBT patients. Together, we have investigated and addressed pervasive bullying faced by LGBT students, prohibiteddiscrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in Federal housing, and extended benefits for same-sex domestic partners. Earlier this year, I signed a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in the implementation of any VAWA-funded program. And because LGBT rights are human rights, my Administration is implementing the first-ever Federal strategy to advance equality for LGBT people around the world.

We have witnessed real and lasting change, but our work is not complete. I continue to support a fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act, as well as the Respect for Marriage Act. My Administration continues to implement the Affordable Care Act, which beginning in 2014, prohibits insurers from denying coverage to consumers based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, as well as the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, which addresses the disparate impact of the HIV epidemic among certain LGBT sub-communities. We have a long way to go, but if we continue on this path together, I am confident that one day soon, from coast to coast, all of our young people will look to the future with the same sense of promise and possibility. I am confident because I have seen the talent, passion, and commitment of LGBT advocates and their allies, and I know that when voices are joined in common purpose, they cannot be stopped.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2013 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists, and to celebrate the great diversity of the American people.
