A Messy Blues

ad bannerFor the fifth year in a row Phil cobbled together a Blues program to fill the time slot for Murphy’s Magic Mess on KZUM. Every Labor Day Weekend KZUM preempts all programming for 83 hours of Blues. In the past this has been more of a challenge for Phil and the rest of the Mess, this year was different. The challenge was to whittle it down to two hours of music. Didn’t quite happen that way, he had 2 hours and 27 minutes of music and Murf  joined the fun with another 47 minutes of music. Clearly not everything on their lists got played.

Kate was off for the weekend attending a family gathering. Michelle and her husband stopped in briefly to share the fun of Murf’s birthday.

The following is the played list of music.

PMP: Why we do what we do

It has been five years since RevKess dragged KaliSara online to do the first episode of Pagan-Musings. Hard to believe it has been that long! And yes, RevKess had to “drag” KaliSara. He was unemployed and going stir crazy, trying to find something to fill his time while waiting for potential employers to get back with him. So he asked her, “Wanna sit in on my first podcast? I don’t know what I am doing, but it could be a lot of fun!” Five years later and they’ve hardly missed a week (those that have been missed have been due to technical difficulties).

Both hosts enjoy doing the show. They enjoy the music and meeting them musicians. They enjoy the books and talking with the authors. They enjoy sharing news and information with their listeners. On a deeper level, RevKess feels that the show, indeed almost everything he does with PMPChannel, is part of a calling that he has to teach. For KaliSara she feels that she has something to share with others, with the hopes that what she shares will be of benefit to others.

Along the way both hosts shared some of their favorite topics and guests. As you can see from the list below, PMPChannel plays host to other shows, some of them as one-off’s, some as series. PMPChannel plays home to the podcast version of Murphy’s Magic Mess and Lavender Hill from KZUM.

While preparing the show notes today, RevKess stumbled across this site that is devoted to Leigh Ann Hussey. Her music is available for free download at www.motogrrl.org/Bands, but this site has details on her life, music career and her unfortunately and untimely passing. For those of you who enjoy Leigh Ann’s music and want to learn more about her, please visit the sites linked and share her life and love of music with others. Leigh Ann was also an author, you can hear Colin Hussey read her novella “The Lover of Lord Eithras“, or read the story. There doesn’t seem to be any videos on YouTube or elsewhere for Leigh Ann’s music, something just might have to be done about that.

Musica Pagani: Music of the Divine Feminine

On Wednesday, April 11, RevKess hosted a special edition of Musica Pagani with guest Jenna Greene. It was a special edition because it was done live. Musica Pagani is usually recorded in advance, but this time RevKess had a guest host with him and wanted to do it live and raw for the listeners.

Jenna Greene is a wonderful guest to have on the show, and this was her third or fourth appearance on the Channel. She’s released two CD’s and is already working out ideas for a third. Crossroads, her debut album, is a beautiful collection of songs showing some of her vocal talent and sharing her song writing skills with the world. Her second album, Wild Earth Child, has just been released and has more of a world fusion feel to the instrumentals, but continues to display her vocal talents.

Jenna joined RevKess to talk about some of the music written, recorded, or produced by Pagan women. After talking a little about each of the artists featured a selection from one of their albums was played for listener enjoyment.
