PWN #106 – Heather Greene & Pagan Media

On this week’s edition of the Pagan Weekly News, Heather Greene joined RevKess for a lengthy discussion of Pagan media. Heather is a contributor to Circle Magazine, a columnist for The Wild Hunt, an adviser for Lady Liberty League and the current National Public Information Officer for Covenant of the Goddess. She also writes on her personal blog about various topics.

The first half hour of the show was brief coverage of some Pagan related news as well as some goings-on in the United Kingdom. Heather joined the broadcast around the bottom of the first hour. For the majority of the program she and RevKess discussed a variety of Pagan media related issues. Rounding out the end of the show RevKess visited on a couple of other news items.

PWN #104: 2 Years Running

For two years RevKess and Zaracon have presented the Pagan Weekly News. In the 104th edition of that show they were joined by Rev. Peter Dybing, Deirdre Heber of PaganFM, and Amber Roth of Pagan Centered Podcast.

Peter Dybing is an activist and works closely with the Lady Liberty League. He recently met with Christian ministers in the Lake Okochobee area of Florida to show them that Pagans are not bad people and persuade them not to stage protests during the first Lake Okochobee Pagan Summer Solstice Festival. He is also a disaster relief specialist who has been on the ground in Haiti and all around the United States after numerous natural disasters. You can read some of his thoughts on activist issues at his personal blog Pagan In Paradise.

Deirdre Hebert is the host of PaganFM out of Portsmouth, NH. PaganFM has been on for seven years and ranks as the second longest Pagan content terrestrial radio broadcast in the world. Deirdre has also been a guest co-host on the Pagan Weekly News.

Amber Roth (aka Amber Rose) is one of the cast of hosts from Pagan Centered Podcast, currently out of production. She works with the Native American community on the East Coast. Amber has also been a guest co-host on the Pagan Weekly News.

Unlike the usual format for PWN, this edition was a free flowing discussion with minimal guidance from RevKess and Zaracon. Topics discussed included:

  • Activism
  • Pagan Media
  • Taboo issues in the Pagan community
  • The internet and Paganism
  • Use of “little p” and “big P” Pagan in mainstream media

Other topics were touched upon, including the recent shut down Pagan Radio Network and the future of Paganism.

PWN #96: Florida Pagans, Monsanto, and more

The 96th edition of Pagan Weekly News led off with news from the state of Florida. Lots of things going on down there for the Pagan and New Age communities. What with the uproar, now simmered down, in Pahokee over the first Summer Solstice Pagan Festival and the new banning of herbal tinctures state wide.

After a false start, RevKess was able to get things going an hour late. The joys of doing things live and hitting technical issues that cannot be resolved on our end. Thank you to the BTR help desk for taking the time to get things fixed. Still don’t know what actually happened, but it is a fix.

PWN #92

The 92nd edition of Pagan Weekly News started out with a little back slapping from Heather Greene of the Covenant of the Goddess and The Wild Hunt. She wrote an article for PRN and TWH about “What is Pagan media?” Sometime in the very near future Ms Greene will be joining us on either an edition PWN or Pagan-Musings to talk about the Pagan Media and her work with CoG. We would like to have a panel discussion with various members of the Pagan Media, if you are a Pagan media person (journalist, blogger, podcaster, etc) who would like to participate in that conversation you can email us at paganmusings@gmail.com and we can go from there. Or you can contact us on our PWN Facebook page.

Peter Dybing outside the Glitter Dome, home of Kyrja and the Friends of Rupert

Peter Dybing called  in during the first half hour of the show to talk about his work with the Lady Liberty League in regards to Kyrja’s situation in Newport Richie, FL. The work that LLL and others have been doing there sounds extraordinary, but Peter stressed that is what is right about the Pagan community that LLL and others can and will step up to show support and provide certain services to others within the community when the need arises.

We later talked about Big Ag and Big Chemical in regards to the decline in the honeybee population world wide, including steps that some countries are taking to prevent that continued decline or assist in preserving the honeybee. We also talked about how religion is addressed in mainstream media and how religious illiteracy can be damaging to the population as a whole. We concluded with a little talk about some of the books that Zaracon and RevKess have been reading recently.
