MMM: Independence 2014

fireworksOn Murphy’s Magic Mess we like to celebrate the holidays with music and stories. That’s just what we did this weekend for Independence Day. Murf, however, was at home with one of those miserable summer colds. *K8 and Phil managed to muddle through without her. Phil putting together the first hour, *K8 the second. As you can tell from the playlist, the show became something resembling Hindu Patriotism. Not intended, but it did come out that way.

This week is one of those special tracking weeks that we have to do at KZUM. That means that we have to track and report to SoundExchange everything we play, when we started the track and when we ended. This gives us the opportunity to play longer tracks. Sure, we could play 10-45 minute tracks every week if we wanted to, but we want to give the listener as much variety as we can every week. We’ll be doing this again in August.

A note to anyone who may have attempted to call in during the show. A firmware or software issue has been cropping up on the weekends that deactivates the phones. The program manager and our station engineer are working with our phone service to correct the problem.

PMP: Shauna Aura Knight & Leadership

KaliSara has an essay coming out in the Moon Books publication Paganism 101: An introduction to Paganism by 101 Pagans, released February 2014. Her essay is in response to the topic of the Pagan priesthood. She shared her essay on the show while encouraging the listener to pick up a copy for themselves, available in Kindle and paperback.

We dived into a discussion of an idea proposed by Christine Kraemer on her Sermons from the Mound blog on Patheos.com. She proposes that bloggers and commenters sit down to coffee or some such and talk face to face. Great idea, but many bloggers and commenters rarely have the opportunity to do so, most of them living long distances from each other. But it does inspire a good idea…. Instead of spending all our time on Facebook, Twitter or wherever, we should spend time with people. Face to face.

Shauna Aura Knight was supposed to join us on the air, but a scheduling conflict came up which prevented her from doing so. We carried on as best we could without her direct input while discussed some of her recent articles on leadership in the Pagan community. Three articles in particular are available in the series as of show time.

In her Grassroots article, Shauna makes reference and links to an article by Ivo Dominguez Jr on the Pagans&Witches site about being the agent of change. She has also recently published an article on PaganActivist in which she talks about that dreaded idea, “paying for services“, which prompted RevKess to remember an article he wrote on the same topic for Off the Beaten Path.

  3. Frenchy and the Punk – Catapult to the Highlands – Thread & Stone

Murphy’s Magic Mess for 11 August 2013

MysteriesOfHeavenIt was another one of those lovely tracking weeks at KZUM. Not that big of a deal, after having done it for so long. Still a bit of a headache as we have to get start and finish times, record labels and the like. Oh, well. Makes it a bit more of a challenge and quite educational.

Phil cut’n’pasted the Artist, Track, and CD  Title frames from the spread sheet he used, so things look a little different. We hope that you can still figure everything out okay. The format is the same as usual, just not numbered.

The Pagan in Recovery, available on Amazon and Lulu

Saturday, 21 April 2012: RevKess and KaliSara were joined by Deirdre Hebert, author of The Pagan in Recovering: 12 Steps from a Pagan Perspective. This episode focused mainly on the aspect of addiction, with approximately 1h45m talking about Dee’s book and her own perspectives on addiction.

Dee has been on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel a time or two, either as a call-in guest or a participant in the BTR chat for the show. She is also the host of PaganFM! on WSCA-LP 106.1FM in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (Thursdays from 10-midnight, Eastern). You can learn more about Dee and PaganFM by visiting their website. Dee has appeared on KZUM‘s Lavender Hill to discuss transgender issues.

Along with substance abuse, the hosts discussed with Dee and the chat room participants other forms of addiction. Including sex addiction, addiction to people and ideas. A brief run down of the 12 steps from a Pagan perspective was discussed as well as a means of incorporating each step into a person’s spiritual life.
