PMP: Hypersensitivity & the Pagan

Shauna Aura Knight joined RevKess and KaliSara for a wonderful discussion of hypersensitivity with a focus on the Pagan world. Relaying anecdotes from personal life, ritual situations, and throwing in some armchair psychology, the three had a rather informative talk about how being hypersensitive to their environment and other contributing factors can learn to move through life with a better understanding of how their selves react to the world.

A term that cropped up once or twice in the conversation was “kinesthetic”. In context of the conversation, Shauna was referring to kinesthetic sense. WikiPedia defines that as

Proprioception, the kinesthetic sense, provides the parietal cortex of the brain with information on the relative positions of the parts of the body. Neurologists test this sense by telling patients to close their eyes and touch their own nose with the tip of a finger. Assuming proper proprioceptive function, at no time will the person lose awareness of where the hand actually is, even though it is not being detected by any of the other senses. Proprioception and touch are related in subtle ways, and their impairment results in surprising and deep deficits in perception and action.

The idea of “micro expressions” was brought up just over half way into the show. If you are a fan of TV dramas then you might be familiar with the show Lie To Me. Taking the idea of “profiling” to the extreme of observing the smallest shifts in body language or facial expressions to better understand the emotional state of the individual. The TV show is based on the work of Dr. Paul Ekman.

Towards the end of the show, the focus shifted to Pagan leadership.

Unfortunately for our live listeners the live stream ended before the show was over. But they didn’t miss much. All three will return on February 2nd for a continued conversation about Pagan Leadership: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Veterans’ Day on the Mess

ad bannerHello, all. I’ve been rather remiss of late when it comes to sharing our play lists and other notes from the shows, both those on PMPChannel and the shows I am involved in on KZUM. We’ll see what we can do to rectify that.

Here is the playlist from Murphy’s Magic Mess on the 10th. It was our Veterans’s Day celebration, so much of the music fits into that theme. It was also one of our SoundExchange tracking weeks, so the format of the playlist is taking straight from the tracking spreadsheet. I had the pleasure of selecting the music, and these 20 tracks are just half of what I selected. We also had a nice little visit with Josh Bivins of UNL Pagan Life, the Pagan student group at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Musica Pagani #9: A day early

Due to some scheduling issues and RevKess getting deep into research, Musica Pagani aired a day early. Saturdays are the usual day for the Pagan-Musings Podcast with KaliSara and RevKess. RevKess has to work and KaliSara has dived deep into her writing projects. So, Musica Pagani comes to you a day early. Hope that you enjoy!

Musica Pagani Celebrates Independence

RevKess would like to say happy 4th of July to all the listeners in the United States and all of those who appreciate the freedoms and independence that they have or want to have. Every year on the 4th of July, millions of people celebrate the freedom and independence that they have in the United States. Even with the inequities that barrage US citizens on a regular basis, people in the US have much more freedom than most other places around the globe. It is due to the long battle that the US people have waged for centuries that they can celebrate on this day, and any other day of the year. Religious freedom, sexual equality (a work in progress), workers’ rights, voters’ rights, property and inheritance rights, all those things that many in the US take for granted. They are all reasons to celebrate.

Though Musica Pagani is a music program, as the name suggests, RevKess wanted to share that Crystal Blanton is a new staff writer for the Wild Hunt. Her first article for TWH was published for the 4th of July and it pertains to the celebration in the United States as well as the major disappointment that many have with the Supreme Court of the United States after their decision to over turn Section 4 of the Voters Rights Act on June 25, 2013 – one day before their major decision regarding Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8. In the article she quotes such figures of the Pagan community as T Thorn Coyle, Peter Dybing, Yeshe Rabbit and Erick DuPreee.

This 4th of July, Musica Pagani celebrates freedom, diversity and independence with music and song.

The 96th edition of Pagan Weekly News led off with news from the state of Florida. Lots of things going on down there for the Pagan and New Age communities. What with the uproar, now simmered down, in Pahokee over the first Summer Solstice Pagan Festival and the new banning of herbal tinctures state wide.

After a false start, RevKess was able to get things going an hour late. The joys of doing things live and hitting technical issues that cannot be resolved on our end. Thank you to the BTR help desk for taking the time to get things fixed. Still don’t know what actually happened, but it is a fix.

On Friday, 21 September 2012, RevKess hosted an episode of Musica Pagani dedicated to music and songs about Mabon, the Autumnal Equinox and the season of Fall. The original scheduled date was Thursday the 20th. Minor conflicts came up and he mistakenly confused his dates. Thanks to a regular listener and fan of programming on Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel, he was reminded and made arrangements to produce the show on Friday the 21st.

PWN #50: Zaracon is Back

After a nearly three week absence from the PMPChannel, Zaracon has returned. He was absent while spending time with his children. More than understandable there. And we at PMPC are very pleased he got to spend time with his family! <click the PWN banner to hear the show>

For his return to the Pagan Weekly News, Zaracon and RevKess dived right in and discussed many issues and events of note to the Pagan community, even though few of them had direct impact on the Pagan community specifically.  On PWN, Z and RevKess do their best to cover news from the Pagan community as well as talk about news and events covered by mainstream media but from a  Pagan perspective.  Whenever possible, RevKess does these show notes with links to the articles mentioned and further information on the issues athand. And of course, the music play list.

Tonight’s Topics (with Links):

  1. Wild Fires – We started the show off with a discussion of some of the issues related to the Wild Fires in many states across the western U.S. In particular, the conflict between Arizona’s indigenous population and the courts over a fire ban. We continued with a recorded segment from our friend Peter Beckley at That Witchy Place on Magick without forethought as related to the  Wild Fires.
  2. Scranton, PA has opposed a court order and reduced the pay of all city employees to the Federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. The city is essential bankrupt. But is that a reason to make police, fire & rescue, and other city employees suffer? Many of these employees may well be unable to provide for their families at this significantly reduced pay rate. Don’t get us wrong, Z and RevKess are far from living high on the hog themselves, but Federal minimum wage has not been raised since 2006 and has less buying power than the minimum wage of 1968.
  3. A Rolling Stone’s article on the sharp and sudden decline of the middle class during this current recession prompted your hosts to go into a conversation about service organizations and how some of them that are religiously operated tend to enforce their religious beliefs onto their clients and exchange for the services offered.
  4. From there they talked about the Pagans with Disabilities or Developmental Differences Anthology being compiled by Immanion Press. They are still taken submissions for this anthology. In fact, they have extended the submission deadline to August 31, 2012. Check out the link or email tara.miller21@gmail.com for further information.
  5. July 9th was the 20th anniversary of the death of Herman Slater. Slater was a writer, publisher, Pagan shop owner, and variously a Pagan rogue, hero, and jokester. RevKess, not having met Slater, does have fond memories of encountering his writings and video productions in the mid ’90s, after Slater’s death. You can read a full bio of Herman Slater on Controverscial.com.
  6. A question of free speech, artistic license and the separation of church and state was addressed this past school year by the ACLJ. A source for information that we rarely use, but this article caught both Z and RevKess’s attention. An art project in a New York public school hit some controversy when the school administration required one of the contributors to alter her art to removed religious symbols. This after several other students had included apparent non-Christian symbols in their own contributions. Read and decide for yourself.

Pagan Weekly News is usually slated for three hours on BTR. That third hour being for any overflow discussion or major stories that need to be addressed. Z and RevKess usually wrap up around the top of the second hour. Tonight they ran out of time for the deep topic of the Higgs Boson (aka the God Particle). Tune in next week for a discussion of that topic and how it might effect science and religion in the very near future.

And now for the music:

  • Celia – Ground, Center, Shield – For the Asking
  • Cernnunos Rising – Heart Beat of Harvest – Wild Soul
  • Jenna Greene – Dance with Me – Crossroads
  • SJ Tucker – Cheshire Kitten (We’re All Mad Here) – Mischief

PWN #44: RevKess and KaliSara at Heartland

On Tuesday, 29 May 2012, they discussed their experiences on PWN. Zaracon joined in on the line about 1.5 hours into the show. Both will be blogging and writing articles about their experiences over the next couple of weeks. Please check back with this posting for links to those articles and blog posts. In the meantime, visit the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel on BTR to hear their talk and listen to some great music.
