PMP: Chronilus, bards adrift in the ether of a timeless human experience

Chronilus joined KaliSara and RevKess on the show. Focusing on their music and how they are using it to build a tribal feel in the Pagan community.

Chronilus released their first EP in December 2013 to rave reviews. They reached #1 in the Celtic genre for the Seattle area and nationwide at #16 and world wide at #25.  Their music has been peer reviewed on ReverbNation.com.

Their sound is their own. With influences from many musicians and genres, they combine Celtic flavor with Eastern European and African elements. They twist it creatively around the idea of traveling through time (and space) to seek out certain truths and archetypes that outlive civilization. They appeal to history buffs, sociology and psychology interests, sex-positive adults, time travel and sci-fi/fantasy enthusiasts and generally people of wall walks of life and love.

Chronilus were podcast virgins before their visit with PMPChannel.  KaliSara and RevKess were pleased to be the Chronilus bandones to pop their collective cherry for this avenue of social media. Bone Deep the Bard, Manfred, Caera and Sonia were a real joy to have one the show. They talked in depth about their inspirations, aspirations, and beliefs. Representing a true Tribe of people, this quartet of musicians bring their talents to the stage on a regular basis. They are deeply involved in their local community – not just as Pagans, but as members of the local poly community and environmentalists.

They sent along some wonderful music for the hosts to share during the show. Including three pieces that are not yet released on CD. They can be heard on their website, but are not currently available for sale. Heave Home, Longing and The Rede. Christopher Bingham of Bone Poets Orchestra (formerly Gaia Consort) has graciously given Chronilus permission to cover songs from his projects. The Rede being one of those. Longing is a love song, it is not until you reach the third verse that you realize that it is a lesbian love song. Heave Home captures a taste of what Chronilus is.

  1. Heave Home – unreleased
  2. Brigid – Prologue
  3. The Rede (written by Christopher Bingham of Bone Poets Orchestra/Gaia Consort) – unreleased
  4. Longing – unreleased
  5. The Wild Hunt – Prologue

Chronilus EPTheir EP Prologue can be purchased as a CD or digital download from CDBaby. You can find their music on BandCamp and ReverbNation.

On March 21, 2014 they will being doing a benefit concert for Willow Moon, former head of the Everett Pagan Meet Up Group, at Soul Food Coffee House & Fair Trade Emporium in Redmond, WA. For those who cannot make it to the benefit show you can go online and make a donation for Willow Moon. The night of the concert you can also watch it streaming live on the Soul Food site.

UPDATE 3/10/14: Just learned that our friends have reached the #1 slot for Celtic music in the Seattle area again!

The Mess Debuts Damh’s Wicker Man Single

Sunday the 5th of January brought what we believe to be a first on Murphy’s Magic Mess, the US debut of Damh the Bard’s newest single, The Wicker Man. Released to the public on the 3rd, to the best of our knowledge the Mess was the first terrestrial radio show to play this wonderful single from British Pagan/Druid recording artist Damh the Bard. You can listen to and purchase the single here.

I enjoyed teasing Murf and Kate, as well as the listeners, with hints at what was in store late in the show. Along with Damh’s single we also played a lot of new New Age music from artists like Kristin Amarie, Yang Yiing, Timothy Wenzel, Steven Vitali, Masako and Dan Chadburn. In the second half of the show we brought you new music from SJ Tucker, Wendy Rule and of course Damh the Bard. Along the way we played classic pieces from Inanna, Ubaka Hill and Lesiem. So much more. Check out the play list below for a full listing of the music.

A Messy End to 2013, MMM on KZUM

drunk_dragon_drunkon_by_sssilver_c-d32orug2013 is drawing to close, and has already done so here on Murphy’s Magic Mess. Sadly, *K8 was not in studio with us this morning. She was off celebrating the winter holidays with her family. But, while the *K8’s away….. Murf and Phil had a blast and infused the latter portion of the show with a great collection of songs about drinking. See the whole list of music below (and please, if you spot an error, let us know so we can fix it!).

You can find much of the music from the second half of the show for free download thanks to Pandora Celtica, SJ Tucker, Sharon Knight and dozens more wonderful musicians who got together and decided to give their fans 79 tracks of music as a holiday gift. This free download is available through Valentine’s Day 2014. We’d suggest that you download each track individually. May be time-consuming, but definitely a lot less time than it takes to download them all as a ZIP file. (Phil tried twice and both times the file came up as empty.) Here’s the download page.

MP: Rock It, Pagan Style pt 1 & 2

Click to Listen

Click to Listen, pt 1 – Pt 2 available here.

Well now, would seem that RevKess has been even more neglectful of things than usual.  It has been some time since he did an edition of Musica Pagani. He’s making it up for it the best he can with a two parter: Rock It, Pagan Style!

Earlier in 2013, Kenny Klein launched a recording project with his touring band FishBird. Some of the music they did was rock-like covers of some of his older music. And of course, every good musician is experimenting with new pieces whenever possible. That’s just what FishBird has done.

In this two parter of Musica Pagani you will get a taste of FishBird as well as some other rocking musicians and bands with a distinctive Pagan flare. Everyone from Leigh Anne Hussey with her unreleased Uglytown demo to Wendy Rule and Rosin Coven, with stops along the way to visit with Omnia and Frenchy and the Punk.

We do hope that you have enjoyed this special edition of Musica Pagani!

Notes for 29 September 2013

KZUM promotes diversity and the Mess is a prime example of that diversity. If you listen to KZUM often you know that Sundays are an interesting combination of programming. The Glorious Gospel is from 6-9am and immediately followed by Murphy’s Magic Mess from 9-11am. Two polar opposite programs back to back. There is very little, if any, tension between the programmers for these two shows.

To share in that diversity, Murf, *K8 and Phil decided to do a show filled with songs about diversity and songs that address the discrimination that unfortunately still exists in the world. You can see that by the variety of songs that were picked for the show.

  1. God is Alive, Magick is Afoot – Buffy Sainte-Marie – Illumination
  2. Ancient Paths – Stanton Lanier – Open Spaces
  3. Valhalla – Stephen DeRuby – Sacred Spaces

Musica Pagani #9: A day early

Due to some scheduling issues and RevKess getting deep into research, Musica Pagani aired a day early. Saturdays are the usual day for the Pagan-Musings Podcast with KaliSara and RevKess. RevKess has to work and KaliSara has dived deep into her writing projects. So, Musica Pagani comes to you a day early. Hope that you enjoy!

The format is a little bit different for this evening’s broadcast as well. Managing to squeeze the show into just over two hours, RevKess brings you a selection of New Age and Pagan music, but with a different twist. 1-2 tracks per artists instead of three, and a story thrown in their for a little bit of extra fun. As all the programming on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel is constantly evolving, who knows where the next edition will bring you!

Speaking of future editions, before we give you the set list, here’s a sneak peak at what is coming your way in August. On Sunday the 11th, Brian Henke visits with RevKess about his music career, shares some of his inspirations and his music. On the 18th, that Goddess Kiss’d gal from Florida, Mama Gina, joins RevKess on the show to talk about her music and a recent benefit to support a local metaphysical shop that was destroyed in a fire.
