Musica Pagani #6

Sunday 7 July 2013, the sixth edition of the rebooted Musica Pagani on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel. An extra long edition of the show this time around. RevKess had to do tracking for Murphy’s Magic Mess on KZUM, which means longer tracks to make it easier to track. So, still in the mood for long pieces of music, that is where he began for MP.

Introducing some new artists to PMPC and new music from some other artists, is what happens the beginning of every month. July being no exception. Fiona Joy Hawkins has a new release called 600 Years in a Moment and Craig Urquhart sent out his latest, First Light, for sharing on the show. Blackmore’s Night also has a new CD out this summer called Dancer and the Moon. New artists to the collection include Meg Bowles, Sensitive Chaos and Mama Gina. Rounding out the show are some old favorites, Tuatha Dea, Frenchy and the Punk and some lighter music from Michael Brant DeMaria.

As it is a new month, RevKess has picked a new opening and closing piece. Opening the show for the month of July will be Jenna Greene’s “Rise Up Singin'” from her Crossroads CD. Finishing off the show will be “The Blessing” from Tuatha Dea’s The Tribe. (Read RevKess’s review of The Tribe over at RevKess Reviews.)

The Mess: *K8’s Birfday Show

*K8 and the empty "Pun Jar"

*K8 and the empty “Pun Jar”

This week we celebrated *K8’s birthday, or as she put it: Birfday. She was lucky enough to attend a show at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, show casing the Brave Combo with opening act by the Bolzen Beer Band (local to Lincoln). As has become tradition on the Mess, the birthday person gets to program the majority of the music. This week’s show was not overtly Pagan, but did feature many of *K8’s favorite songs and bands. At PMPChannel we get several CDs a month plus permission from more artists than we can keep up with during the normal course of shows. A while back RevKess started doing editions of Musica Pagani to showcase those very musicians. KaliSara, Zaracon, Julian and RevKess do their best to give these musicians due time on their shows, but there just isn’t enough time during a news or talk program.

In this first edition of the revised show you hear music from New Age artists like Stephen DeRuby, Anima, Lia Scallon and Dan Kennedy. You also hear from Pagan musicians SJ Tucker, Cernunnos Rising and Tuatha Dea.

Stephen DeRuby‘s newest CD, Awakenings, and the latest from Anima, Light of Aluna, arrived in RevKess’s inbox only days ago. Lia Scallon‘s The Luminous Pearl and Dan Kennedy‘s Intution have been floating around for a little while and have been played on Murphy’s Magic Mess on KZUM. This is their PMPChannel debut.

SJ Tucker did the score to a Pagan themed film called Ember Days and she recently performed in Lincoln, NE. Cernunnos Rising just released their second CD, Urban Druid, and front man George Nicholas and his daughter Katie will be joining KaliSara and RevKess on the 22nd for an edition of Pagan-Musings Podcast. Tuatha Dea just released their third CD, The Tribe, and have been working long and hard with many talented musicians through a new project called The Tribe (Wendy Rule, Damh the Bard, and others have joined up). Tuatha Dea will be joining RevKess and KaliSara on the 29th for Pagan-Musings Podcast.

Mess Play List for 051913

Murf's Blue DragonMichelle from the Red Grail visited Murf, Kate and Phil at the studio this morning. She brought in a lovely little blue dragon statue for Murf. Would seem that the fae had been playing around with Michelle’s figurine collection and knocked the dragon shelf off. The dragon was perfectly up right, but the shelf was on the floor as at an angle. Now the little dragon is sitting at Murf’s home along with all her other dragon friends.

Tune in every Sunday morning to KZUM for Murphy’s Magic Mess, like us Facebook.

MMM Playlist 04/28/13

Would seem that Phil’s radio blog has gone MIA, or at least his ability to post it, and since the promoters and the musicians have been chomping at the bit to see playlists posted somewhere, he will be posting them to this blog site until he can either rectify the situation or decides on if he wants to recreate that radio blog.

Nadine Murphy, host of MMM at the boards.

Nadine Murphy, host of MMM at the boards.

*K8 of Murphy’s Magic Mess on KZUM has been so kind as to enter in the playlist as it happens on Facebook. So it has become even easier for the weekly playlist to be made available to everyone. Her formatting is different than mine, though. She does song title, artist, album. Which is fine, it is all there. We all (Murf included) hope that you enjoy and appreciate these playlists. If time allows when I post them to this blog I will also include links to some or all of the musicians’ pages.

Sunday, 28 April 2013 was the first of two Beltaine shows for the gang on MMM. Looking at the music we played should make that obvious, but you never know…. *wink* In this list you will find some “classic” Pagan pieces as well as some brand new pieces that had arrived for either Phil or Murf in recent weeks.
