MMM: Phil’s Birthday Mess 9/14/14

(Editor’s note: We are playing a little catch up with our play lists. Our apologies for the delays.) Sunday, 14 September 2014 was Phil’s birthday. As such he got to pick all the music for the show.  Twenty-six of Phil’s favorites, from new age to Pagan rock, found their way onto the final play list. With almost six  hours worth of music to pick from, there was a lot that got chopped to fit into a two hour show. Tough choices, but a lot of fun was had by all.

  1. Wytches’ Chant ’98 – Inkubus Sukkubus – Away with the Fairies
  2. Invocation – Luminous World Orchestra – Moments from the Life Stories of Strangers
  3. Calligraphy – Laura Sullivan – The Gathering II
  4. Andean Blues – Ciro Hurtado – Ayahausca Dreams
  5. Frolik – Matthew Schoening – Narrow Path
  6. New Normal – Adam Andrews – Road to Ambo
  7. Once Around – Ray Spiegel Ensemble – Moksha

  25. Jabberwocky – Omnia – Wolf Love
  26. Dagda’s Club – Isaac Bonewits  – Avalon is Rising

#22 was selected because 19 September is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Following just days after Phil’s birthday, he has an affinity for pirates. Who doesn’t??  #20 was selected for two reasons, a great song and Deb Anderson is the Goddess Mother of both Murphy’s Magic Mess and Lavender Hill on KZUM. She is the host of The Wimmins Show. Each track has a reason for it being on his favorites list, perhaps in a future posting he will explain each choice – or you can ask in comments.

MMM: A Weird Mess

This week on Murphy’s Magic Mess the Mama Dragon and her minions decided to take a walk on the Weird Side with their music. Starting with Walkin’ in the Woods by Elvendrums they took a path of oddness that hopefully entertained the listeners.

A special note about the third track, Madiba by Ricky Kej and Wouter Kellerman: 18 July was the birthday of the late Nelson Mandela, an inspiration to his people in South Africa and indeed to the world as a whole. Madiba was the name given to him by his people, it means Father. This track comes from the CD Winds of Samsara. Samsara is from the Sanskrit for “cycle of life” or “reincarnation”.

As a tribute to the late James Garner, actor, we played the full TV theme from The Rockford Files.

Mruphy’s Magic Mess, 28 July 2013

ad bannerMurf, *K8 and Phil bring you two hours of new age and Pagan music every Sunday morning on KZUM in Lincoln, NE from 9am to 11am.

This week seemed to be a little strange with the studio equipment. Players not firing, CDs stopping after only 20 seconds of play. Mercury has gone direct, so it wasn’t an astrological incident. No, we discovered the reason when Murf told us what she had lined up on her master disc for the second hour. Scroll down through the play list and surely you will see what was up, too.

Murphy’s Magic Mess pays Musical Tribute to Freedom & Independence

Right up at the top of the hour, the Mama Dragon and her minions took over the boards from the Glorious Gospel. Kate and Murf put together a wonderful set of military and patriotic music to celebrate the freedoms that we as Americans have fought so long and hard for.

This time Phil typed up the play list and *K8 got to hang out at the boards. Some information is missing as *K8 doesn’t always provide full track info. Phil did what he could to find the missing information, but it was not enough. If you have correct track information, please leave it in comments below so the posting can be corrected.
